Jeff Zimmerman, DVM PhD DACVPM is a professor in the Department of Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine, College of Veterinary Medicine, Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa USA. Dr. Zimmerman works in the areas of swine infectious disease ecology, epidemiology, and economics. In particular, his recent research has focused on infectious disease surveillance, with the long-term goal of creating and implementing affordable, practical, statistically valid swine health surveillance – a critical need for swine producers everywhere. In collaboration with his many generous colleagues and hard-working graduate students, Dr. Zimmerman has authored/co-authored over 200 refereed publications and co-edited Diseases of Swine (9th, 10th, 11th, 12th editions).

Dr. Lin earned his Ph D. from the School of Veterinary Medicine at National Taiwan University in 2003 and joined Animal Technology Institute Taiwan (ATIT) to devote himself to animal vaccine research, abattoir hygiene inspection, and antibiotic resistance. He was an Associate Research Fellow from 2004 to 2011 and later became a Research Fellow and also acted as the Head of the Division of Animal Medicine and Associate. He joined Agricultural Technology Research Institute (ATRI) in 2014 and served as the Director of the Animal Technology Laboratory from 2014 to 2016 and has been appointed to be the Vice president of ATRI since 2016.

Education and Career Experiences:
Prof. Gottschalk (DVM, PhD, University of Montreal) obtained several international awards for his research. The University of Ghent (Belgium) granted him with a Honoris Causa in 2018 as a recognition for his career. He is the director of reference laboratories for swine pleuropneumonia and Streptococcus suis. He is a consultant for the WHO and FAO on human and swine S. suis diseases, respectively. Expertscape’s PubMed-based algorithms placed him in the top 0.02% published authors worldwide on human and veterinarian Streptococcal infections (worldwide expert). Dr. Gottschalk has published more than 400 articles in peer-reviewed journals and more than 200 articles in professional journals, and he has been requested as invited speaker to give more than 300 conferences in 36 countries around the world.

Professor Padet Tummaruk graduated D.V.M. from Chulalongkorn University in 1997 and M.V.Sc. and Ph.D. from Swedish University of Agricultural Science in 2001. Currently, he is the head of the Centre of Excellence in Swine Reproduction at Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Reproduction, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand. His teaching assignments are swine reproduction focusing on reproductive biology, semen, assisted reproductive technology, ovary, agricultural science, semen analysis, animal physiology and animal reproduction. Currently, his research interests are swine reproduction with emphasis on risk factors associated with sow reproductive performance, gilt management, boar semen cryopreservation, artificial insemination, and neonatal care of piglets.

Education and Career Experiences:
Paul Becher studied veterinary medicine and did his doctoral thesis at the Federal Research Centre for Viral Diseases of Animals in Tübingen, Germany. In 1995, he became a postdoc at the Institute of Virology, Justus-Liebig-University, Giessen, Germany. He was appointed as Assistant Professor in 2001 and as Associate Professor in 2008 at the same university. In 2008, he was granted a Heisenberg Professorship by the German Research Foundation and he became Full Professor at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Hannover, Germany. His mayor research topics comprise mechanisms and biological significance of genetic variability of RNA viruses, pathogenesis, diagnosis and control of classical swine fever and other diseases caused by pestiviruses, virus-host interactions, and discovery and characterization of various animal viruses.

Dr. Zhang received his BVSc from Shandong Agricultural University, MS from the National Institute of Veterinary Biologics, PhD from Iowa State University, and postdoctoral training from University of Missouri. Zhang’s research focuses on transmission, evolution, pathogenesis, and antimicrobial resistance of zoonotic bacterial pathogens at the animal-human interface. Over the years, his team has discovered emerging disease threats, revealed novel antibiotic resistance mechanism, and generated important information for improving animal health, food safety, and public health. Dr. Zhang is an elected fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, American Academy of Microbiology, and American Association for the Advancement of Science.
